Considerations for Buying a Home in South Florida

There are many things to consider when buying a home in South Florida.  This article will explore some of the most common items you need to consider when buying a home in this sunny state.  Use a Palm Beach Gardens Florida Real Estate Agent for best results.

Hurricane Shutters:  This is extremely important because let's face it, Florida does get hurricanes!  There are many types, some are aluminum and come in long pieces.  They have to be hung one at a time.  Palm Beach Gardens real estate agents know of who to call.  While very protective, they can take hours if not days to put up.  It is often not easy to find someone to put them up if you can’t do this yourself.

Accordion shutters are just that-they fold like an accordion and sit pretty much out of sight when not in use.  When a hurricane or high winds are coming, you simply unlock, slide closed and lock again.  South Florida Real Estate Agents recommend accordion shutters. These don’t need much maintenance but the tracks should be cleaned and lubricated at least once a year.

Garage Space:  Those from up North in the United States may laugh at this one, and it’s because they have basements.  Beautiful, big basements that often run the entire length of the house.  Not so in South Florida!  Built on concrete slabs, homes here do not have basements.  South Florida realtors believe in larger garages. Most people store items in their garage.  Unfortunately, Florida garages are not known to be that wide.  You can barely fit into two cars most of the time.  However, you can find garages that are deep-which enables you to install cabinets and shelves for all your storage needs.

Pool:  Nothing cools you off more in the hot summer of Florida (and I mean hot!) than a pool.  Top Real Estate Agents in Palm Beach Gardens love a nice pool.  You will keep yours open all year round and weekly maintenance can be done by yourself or the myriad of pool companies out there.  Some communities do have shared pools which may suit you just fine, while other people enjoy the privacy of their own pool, especially if they have kids.
